MotoGP: Valentino Rossi targets Giacomo Agostini record

1 of 1

Valentino Rossi has set his sights on Giacomo Agostini’s MotoGP victory record after he became the second most successful rider in history last weekend in Le Mans.

Rossi’s brilliant victory in the French MotoGP was the 90th of his illustrious career and saw him move level with Spanish legend Angel Nieto.

While he is still 32 victories shy of compatriot Agostini’s incredible tally of 122, Rossi is now only four wins behind the legendary Italian in the premier class.

Agostini has 68 premier class wins while Rossi has now moved into 64.

The 29-year-old could now equal Ago’s record in Assen later this year and he said: “Ago has 68 in the premier class, so that’s just four more than me.  Maybe we can reach this target, but 122 wins means I need another 32 wins. Maybe it is difficult but maybe not impossible.”

Rossi has always said it was his dream to surpass Agostini to become the most successful MotoGP rider in history.
