LCR Honda poised to scrap Moto2 plan

Lucio Cecchinello’s MotoGP squad looks certain to scrap plans to race in the new 600cc four-stroke Moto2 world championship next year.

The Italian submitted an application to be part of the 250GP two-stroke replacement class at the end of May and made it through the initial selection process.

But with the final allocation of grid places for Moto2 due to be decided at next month’s Estoril race in Portugal, Cecchinelllo told MCN: “If we will do anything in Moto2 it will depend a lot on the costs we need to spend in MotoGP. Right now, and it is a pity to say, but looking at the figure Honda gave us for the lease fee for next year in MotoGP I would say it is now a 30 per cent possibility for us to race in Moto2.

“Now we’re more in the direction that we will not race in Moto2 because our priority is MotoGP.” Cecchinello is currently in talks with Randy de Puniet and Marco Melandri for his MotoGP squad in 2010.
