Spaniard Dani Pedrosa took a dominant victory at the final race of 2009 at Valencia after getting the holeshot from the start.

Ducati rider Casey Stoner qualified in pole position yesterday but didn’t start the race after he high-sided his number 27 Ducati early on in the warm up lap.

Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo looked set for second position, ahead of his team-mate Valentino Rossi, until he had a huge out-of-the-seat moment early on in the race which saw his Airbag suit inflate.

Rossi pounced and held second position till the end of the race.

Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards secured fifth place in the championship after finishing fourth. Wildcard Ben Spies helped his fellow-Texan after he finished seventh ahead of Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso.

Brit James Toseland could only manage 12th place in his final MotoGP race.
