Kenny Roberts abandons Moto2 plan

1 of 1

Kenny Roberts has abandoned plans to compete in the new Moto2 world championship.

The American legend did have two places on the provisional grid for the new 600cc four-stroke class, which replaces the 250cc two-stroke series next year.

But a revised entry list was released in Valencia yesterday, with triple world 500cc champion Roberts a notable absentee.

Roberts had always said he would only return to the paddock if he had the funding in place prior to starting the team. But as yet he’s found no sponsor.

The Pramac MotoGP squad, which also had two places on the grid, has also scrapped plans to race, instead preferring to focus its effort on the premier class.

A total of 23 teams with 37 riders have been accepted having submitted a 25,000 Euro deposit to secure their spot.
