Injury no big blow for Jorge Lorenzo, says Yamaha boss

Valentino Rossi’s Fiat Yamaha team boss Davide Brivio doesn’t believe Jorge Lorenzo’s early 2010 MotoGP title assault will be badly hindered by the Spaniard missing a third of pre-season testing.

The 22-year-old missed last month’s second Sepang test in Malaysia after he broke his right hand in a motocross training accident in Spain.

The double 250GP world champion will be back in action at the final winter test in Qatar in just over two weeks and Brivio believes the impact on Lorenzo missing testing will be minimal.

Brivio told MCN: “Jorge will benefit anyway from the last test. Whatever we came out of that test will be then available for him but that’s normal.

“Maybe Jorge might have lost some time in physical training so we will have to see how he will be physically strong by the first race.

“But I think he won’t have a big problem because one of his qualities is to be very quick at adapting to riding the bike.

“In my opinion he will come and try to ride the bike in Qatar and if he can maintain a good physical condition by the first race I don’t think he is going to have a big problem.”
