Jorge Lorenzo confirms Qatar test participation

Last year’s MotoGP world championship runner-up Jorge Lorenzo has confirmed he will participate in the final winter test session in Qatar later this week.

The Spaniard was a major doubt having broken his right hand in a motocross training accident near Barcelona four weeks ago.

But the double 250GP world champion will attempt to ride his Fiat Yamaha YZR-M1 under the Losail International Circuit floodlights having been given the all-clear by medical staff who have monitored his recovery.

Lorenzo, who missed the last test session at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, will ride with a specially modified Dainese glove and he said: “Today we are leaving for Qatar for the last winter test. I think that it is important that we are there.

“The fracture happened less than five weeks ago, but we could not have missed this last test because it would have been negative for our preparation; we are not far from the first race of the season.

“The doctor has made a special carbon fibre protection and Dainese have modified my glove, in order to further protect the fracture, so we will see how we get on.”
