German MotoGP: Faubel wins 125GP in photo finish

1 of 1

Aspar Aprilia rider Hector Faubel has won the 125GP race at the Sachsenring in Germany after a photo finish with Frenchman Johann Zarco.

Even after studying the video of the pair, officials were unable to clearly see who crossed the line first, giving a tie for first position. This means victory was awarded to Faubel becuase his fastest lap of the race was faster than Zarco’s.

This is the second race this year Zarco has thought he has won a race only to be told different by race direction. At Catalunya he crossed the line first ahead of Terol only to be penalised 20 seconds for an illegal overtake.

Pole setter Maverick Vinales got a poor start, but was able to claw his way back up through the leading group, and going into the final lap was in the lead, but was unable to hold off Faubel and Zarco – desperate for his first win after Catalunya.

Danny Kent was the highest placed Brit in ninth position with Danny Webb and finishing in 14th. Harry Stafford and Taylor Mackenzie both crashed out of the race.
