Loris Capirossi will travel to California to try and compete in this weekend’s American Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

The Italian veteran withdrew from last weekend’s German round at the Sachsenring after just one practice session, the pain from a damaged right shoulder suffered in a heavy qualifying crash at Assen last month too severe to continue.

He also broke two ribs in the Dutch accident but he plans to be back on his Pramac Ducati this weekend for round 10 of the 2011 MotoGP world championship.

He told MCN: “My ribs are not too bad but the problem is my right collarbone and this is really difficult at the moment. I went to hospital in Germany to have some scans and they can see the area around the collarbone, there is a lot of blood and this is causing a big inflammation and that is why I had big pain.

“The pain was too much, so I decided to stop and keep another six days to try and ride in Laguna Seca. The good thing is that the doctors said that if I am still in a bit of pain in Laguna Seca then they could make an intrusion in the shoulder to help. They said if I did this I wouldn’t damage anything in the shoulder.”

Capirossi recently said he will announce his future plans during the forthcoming Brno race in the Czech Republic next month. Many expect the 38-year-old, a veteran of 321 races, to retire at the end of the season.
