Cal Crutchlow struggling with fever

Cal Crutchlow has arrived for the penultimate MotoGP round of 2012 at the Phillip Island circuit unsure just how much a severe bout and bronchitis and fever will impact on his performance in Australia.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider woke this morning feeling under the weather and after seeing a doctor in Melbourne yesterday, he went straight to see Clinica Mobile staff this morning to get loaded up on antibiotics.

Crutchlow said he had felt fine after crashing out of Sunday’s rain-lashed Sepang race in Malaysia, but the illness had started to take hold when he woke up yesterday morning after flying from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who has failed to score points in four out of the last six races to slip from fifth to seventh in the world championship standings, told MCN: “I’m not very well at all. I’ve got bronchitis and a really high fever and my throat is feeling destroyed. I was fine on Monday after the race in Malaysia and then on Tuesday I woke up with a bit of a sore throat and since then it has got worse and worse. This morning when I woke up it was a disaster.

I went to see a doctor in Melbourne yesterday and I’ve been to the Clinica Mobile staff this morning, so I’m loading up on antibiotics because with the fever my temperature is pretty high. It is not looking so good for the weekend at the moment but I will have to wait and see. Today it was a disaster but hopefully it will have cleared up before Sunday.”
