Michael Laverty to be given 2014 MotoGP deal

Irishman Michael Laverty has been told he will get another crack at MotoGP in 2014 after some impressive performances on Paul Bird’s British-built PBM chassis.

The former BSB winner failed to finish for the first time in his rookie campaign when he fell out on the opening lap of last weekend’s Catalunya clash in Barcelona.

Millionaire boss Bird now intends to keep the 32-year-old and he told MCN in Barcelona last weekend: “I am well happy with Michael and I am very keen for him to stay next year. I’ve already told him that and I think he and the new chassis have surprised a few people.

“People didn’t know what we were going to turn up with but we have got a bit more respect from inside the paddock. A few people have given us a pat on the back for what we have done with the new chassis and I think we have done a good job thanks to Michael’s efforts.”
