Assen MotoGP: Rossi takes dominant win

1 of 1

Valentino Rossi took his 80th premier class win with a dominant performance at Assen today onboard the factory Yamaha.

The victory marks Rossi’s first win since the Malaysian grand prix in 2010.

Starting from the second row, Rossi moved up to third at the end of the first lap with a hard move on German Stefan Bradl at the final chicane. On lap five Rossi passed Marc Marquez to take second place and a lap later passed Dani Pedrosa to take the lead

Rossi was able to stretch his advantage and won the race by 2.170 seconds.

Marquez finished second after battling with Pedrosa, before making a move stick at the end of lap 18.

Crutchlow was unable to capitalise on pole position and was down in fifth place going in to the first corner. Crutchlow struggled in the early stages of the race as Jorge Lorenzo passed the Brit.

Crutchlow was able to pass Lorenzo on lap 15 and on lap 21 Crutchlow passed Pedrosa to move into third. Despite catching Marquez on the last few laps Crutchlow was forced to settle for third as the Tech 3 rider had to take avoiding action to avoid hitting Marquez on the final lap.

After breaking his collarbone during free practice on Thursday Lorenzo rode bravely to finish fifth.
