Fresh from having his future confirmed with a one year contract extension from Yamaha Pol Espargaro spoke to MCN about his new deal.

“Yesterday it was pretty close to being signed,” explained Espargaro in Indianapolis. “We had a meeting with Lin and Tsuji and we agreed on everything, so we signed again for one year more.”

It has been a difficult year for the 2013 Moto2 world champion but the faith shown in him by Yamaha shows their confidence that he can turn things around.

“My performance this year has not been the best of the world, so because I have a good curriculum, they trust in me, and they trust this is not my best. Maybe the second part of the year I could improve, and maybe next year I could do a good step. So the chose to make a new contract with me. I’m really happy with them, I will try to do my best as always, try to improve the second part of the season. I think it will be important for the championship especially.”

With so many changes for next year stability was key for both parties and Lin Jarvis explained to MCN that maintaining the relationship with Espargaro was important because of his potential in the premier class. As a former Moto2 champion Espargaro has the ability to be a top rider in the coming years and with so many rider contracts up for renewal next year the rider market could be very fluid.
