Lowes hoping for new chassis for Sachsenring

Sam Lowes’ hopes of winning in Germany could  be given a boost with a new chassis from Speed Up. The Lincolnshire native is looking for a softer chassis that he hopes will offer him improvements in the early laps of races when his current chassis struggles to ‘switch on’ the Dunlop Moto2 tyres.

Lowes has been in great form this year with pole positions, podiums and a win in Texas however the team need to develop their bike to give him a chance of competing at the front. While Tito Rabat and other rivals have commented on the impressive form that Lowes has shown he is in no mood to use the Speed Up chassis as an excuse.

“I think we’re doing a good job” said Lowes. “We need to improve a little bit, both me and the team, but we’re doing well. In Assen it was difficult because all their bikes are the same and they work in the same way it makes it easier for them to pass.

“My bike works better in some areas and worse in others. With this track it seems difficult to pass. I had to work a pass two corners and then just go up the inside. The Kalex has a lot better turning at the minute. We’re stronger in some areas but the turning is better for them.”

“Tturning in the slower corners especially which also means I’ve got more angle than these guys as I haven’t turned as good. Maybe if I can turn as good. Now the grip seems less but I think it’s as good when I can pick the bike up like they do. The bike wants to go straight quite a lot. It’s only a little bit but if we had one and a half tenths a lap in the last few races we would have been right there. It’s only little bits at this level but hopefully we can find something.”

If Speed Up can have the chassis ready in time for Germany Lowes will be able to see if they offer an improvements. Last year Germany was a self-confessed ‘disaster’ but 2015 is proving very different for Lowes and he only needs a small step in performance to make a big step forward on the podium.
