Moto2 engine supplier open to tenders for 2019 onwards

1 of 1

The tender for the contract to be the engine supplier for the Moto2 contract has been put open to bidders from the beginning of the 2019. At present Honda supplies the 600cc engines and having had the contract since 2010 it will be very interesting to see if anyone will challenge them for the deal with Dorna.

With, at that point, nine seasons of data in the class it’s likely that chassis and suspension manufacturers would prefer to see Honda remain as the sole supplier given that it will still be a control engine in place with this new contract. Chassis choice has seen most of the grid use the Kalex chassis this year and with control tyres, engines and electronics the intermediate class is moving closer and closer to being a control class. The successes of Sam Lowes on the Speed Up could lead to a change in chassis distribution from next year and provide more variety on the grid.

Honda was awarded their latest Moto2 contract in 2013.
