Moto2: Luthi takes record Le Mans pole position

1 of 1

Thomas Luthi has extended his domination at the Le Mans circuit by smashing his own pole position record at the French circuit to end the day’s Moto2 action 0.026 ahead of the Team Sky VR46 bike of Francesco Bagnaia, with Franco Morbidelli rounding out the top three.

The Swiss rider’s results came despite a crash in the session – but despite the difficulties he was able to stay in control until the chequered flag came out thanks in part to a few spits of rain in the closing stages of the session.

Luca Marini impressed in fourth, with Dominique Aegerter taking fifth on the Kiefer Suter. Alex Marquez starts off the front row for the first time this season in sixth, putting together a solid salvage job after a difficult day in France and a highside crash on Saturday morning.

Tarran Mackenzie had a solid continuation of his learning curve in the class in 29th, less than 2.5 seconds off pole on only his second day on the bike after making the switch from British Supersport.
