Moto2: Aegerter and Luthi take Swiss one-two

1 of 1

Dominique Aegerter has taken a dominant win at the San Marino Grand Prix, joined on the podium by fellow Swiss racer Thomas Luthi, as he closed down crasher Franco Morbidelli in the title race.

Aegerter took the lead as Morbidelli crashed, and although Luthi was able to hunt him down in the closing stages he didn’t risk a move on his countryman, instead settling for the podium finish and closing the gap to Morbidelli to only nine points.

Malaysian rider and rain specialist Hafizh Syahrin took the final podium spot in the rain-struck race, closing down the leaders until he too decided to settle for only his second podium in six years racing in the class.

British Tarran Mackenzie was the first of a slew of crashers as they repeated the Moto3 class by having more crashers than non-crashers, with Marini, Baldassarri, Pasini, Vierge, Morbidelli, Corsi, Pons, Navarro, Viñales, Fuligni, Nagashima (twice), Simeon, Fernandez, Oliveira, Lecuona, Locatelli, Roberts, Gardner (twice), De Angelis, Manzi, Nakagami and Corsi all falling.
