Scottish teenager Rory Skinner has finished the opening Red Bull Rookies Cup race of two at Germany’s Sachsenring circuit in ninth, after being unable to make the most of a ten-rider battle for the lead.

Qualifying in seventh, the fourteen year old spent most of the race at the back of the leading group, dropping back to ninth at the end of the 19-lap race but taking the fastest lap of the race as a consolidation prize.
