Fenati tops the tables in Moto3 qualifying

Romano Fenati will take the first pole position start of 2016, after topping the tables in Moto3 qualifying in Qatar with a fast lap in the late stages of the session. He will line up alongside Livio Loi and Fabio Quartararo.

Formation flying became the name of the game in the session, with many teams taking to track together in order to gain a slipstreaming advantage on the kilometre long main straight at Losail.

However, Fenati was able to put in a flying lap without the aid of the other VR46 Team Sky KTMs, to set a 2:06.131 lap right at the end of the session.

Loi, who had controlled the session up until that point, will start from second, while third-placed finished Brad Binder has been demoted back to sixth after him and teammate Bo Bendsneyder were docked three places for towing in FP3.

Scotsman John McPhee will start in 30th, as he continues to struggle to come to grips with the Saxoprint Peugeot machine.
