Second Sidecar TT cancelled

1 of 1

The second Sidecar TT race was red-flagged and subsequently cancelled after TT lap record holder Nick Crowe and Mark Cox crashed on the first lap of the three-lap race.
Crowe, from Jurby in the Isle of Man, and his passenger Cox, were leading the race but crashed heavily at Ballacobb, near Ballaugh, and their outfit burst into flames. It is believed to that the crash happened when a hare hit the outfit causing it to veer into the banking.

Both men were taken to Nobles Hospital, Douglas by helicopter and the TT organisers issued a statement saying both Crowe and Cox had sustained ‘significant fractures’ but were talking and passing on thanks to marshals and medical staff for their assistance.

Rain had disrupted the entire day’s schedule and the Sidecar race didn’t start 6.15pm but it was red-flagged some 15m later and the TT organizers later announced that the event was cancelled.

The Senior practice that was due to start later in the evening was also cancelled.
