Guy Martin takes Spring Cup victory

Guy Martin has taken the first ever victories for the new Tyco BMW squad, as the Lincolnshire man got his season underway at Scarborough’s Spring Cup. He won over fellow TT competitors Ryan Farquhar, marking his superbike return, Ivan Lintin and Dean Harrison.

Martin took the victory in the two part race with ease, triumphing in wet conditions on Sunday after taking the first win on Saturday.

“It’s our first race in anger on the BMW machine, and considering the conditions were not very appealing; yeah… we did a damn good job. Granted we still have work to do, but as I said in Spain during the test – what a great bike, we just need to work on finding the sweet spot. But a win’s a win and the trophy they all came for was the Spring Cup and it’ll be sitting on Philip Neill’s sideboard today, so job done.”

He wasn’t the only TT star to taste victory though, with Dean Harrison taking Mar-Train Racing’s new Yamaha R1 to it’s first ever win on the roads.

“I’m really pleased with that, because I really wanted to give both the team and Yamaha a win on the R1. I knew the bike had the pace so pushed to hit the front early and see if I could pull away. It is especially pleasing when you look at the quality of riders behind me and also the times we are all doing given the conditions and time of year.”
