Guy Martin starts retirement rumours afresh

Isle of Man TT star Guy Martin has once again started rumours of his imminent retirement from the iconic race, giving fans at a question and answer session at his local football club a typically cryptic answer.

Quoted after the event in local paper the Scunthorpe Telegraph, Martin told the assembled crowd that 2015 would be his last year while also speaking about how committed he remained to the event.

“I’ll go there whatever happens. Whatever I do I’ll give it 100 per cent. If I go and finish twentieth I still know I’ve done my best. It’s the last time I’m doing it. Let’s be honest, it would be mint to win. It would be great, I love motorbikes.

But it is only motorbikes. Tomorrow is another day. I’ve this sort of mindset – it is what it is.”

Martin already started retirement rumours earlier this year after saying he was considering retirement in an interview in the Times, but subsequently claimed to have been mis-quoted in a statement he released.

He clarified by saying that he was considering cutting back on his racing, but with the TT known to be close to his heart, it would come as a major shock if the most successful rider never to win there walked away from the event.
