Dunlop to remain with Hawk BMW for 2016

Michael Dunlop has ended months of speculation about his 2016 plans my announcing at the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show that he will remain with the Hawk BMW team for the coming year.

First taking success with the squad in 2014, when he won three races with the squad, he also made an eleventh hour return to the team after parting with the Milwaukee Yamaha team half way through practice for the 2015 TT.

Speaking after the announcement was made, Dunlop made it clear exactly what his targets for 2016 are.

“I’m coming back to the TT to win again. I gave it my best last year but the Superbike crash wasn’t the best preparation for the Senior. My last lap at the TT reminded everyone what I can do and with these boys behind me I’m ready to race properly again.”

Team manager Steve Hicken was quick to agree with the Northern Irishman, admitting that 2015 had been a last minute effort for the team and not their best.

“We’re delighted to have Michael back on board for 2016. We know what we have to do to get him back on the top step and with a proper lead time to prepare this year we’re looking forward to helping him achieve his ambitions.”

Dunlop’s preparations will begin early this season, as he heads to the opening two rounds of the MCE British Superbike Championship with the team for some valuable track time.
