TT 2016: Hutchinson storms to Supersport victory

1 of 1

Ian Hutchinson romped to a flag-to-flag victory in the opening Supersport race at this year’s Isle of Man TT, beating Michael Dunlop by 14.303 seconds.

The BPT Came Yamaha rider shot off the line to lead at Glen Helen by 3.5 seconds on the first lap, which steadily increased over the first half of the race with the Bingley Bullet entering the pits at the end of lap two some 12 seconds up on the man who beat him to glory in Saturday’s Superbike race.

Despite losing a second in the pits, Hutchinson controlled his lead and took more time out of Dunlop in the final two laps to cross the line and take his 12th TT win despite his Yamaha rival pushing hard.

Both Hutchinson and Dunlop were under the official race record, but neither quite touched Dunlop’s 128.666mph lap record from 2013.

Dean Harrison took an impressive third on the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki ahead of James Hillier and Conor Cummins. John McGuinness crossed the line sixth followed by Lee Johnston and William Dunlop with Steve Mercer and Gary Johnson rounding out the top ten.
