Edwards who takes a lead of a single point to Imola over defending champion Troy Bayliss, told MCN: ” It’s great we get the test time at Imola. Since we raced there last year there’s a lot changed on the machine – chassis, motor, a new oil from Castrol, Michelin tyres and suspension. ”

Honda is allowed to test at Imola as teams can choose two circuits from the race calendar as their elected test tracks at the beginning of the year. Honda chose Imola and Misano.

There are some incredible stats from Edwards’ season so far:

*He’s finished on the podium in every race this year except once – a fourth at Valencia, Spain.

*He has set a new record of 23 consecutive podiums – the previous best was Foggy’s 12, set in his 1995 and 1999 – two of his four championship wining years.

*Edwards has equalled John Kocinski’s record of wins in a season for Castrol Honda WSB – nine, set in 1997 when Kocinski won the championship on an RC45.

*He’s exceeded Doug Polen’s 1991 record of most podiums in a season (21).

*He’s set a new WSB record of seven wins on the trot.
