Chili and Xaus share Laguna wins

1 of 1

Pier-Francesco Chili and Ruben Xaus took one win each at the World Superbike round at Laguna Seca, USA, on Sunday.

Brit Neil Hodgson had to settle for second place in both races on his factory Ducati. HM Plant rider James Toseland took third in race one, with team-mate Chris Walker claiming the final podium spot in race two. James Haydon had a bad weekend on the Foggy Petronas bike, only completing a total of four laps in both races. His team-mate Troy Corser managed an eighth in race one, but failed to finish the second race.

The first race had to be restarted after American wildcard Aaron Yates lost control at the second corner and took out Hodgson, Chili, Eric Bostrom and Troy Corser. Only Bostrom missed the second grid, with the others all mounting their spare bikes. The race also saw early leaders Xaus, Laconi and Gregorio Lavilla crash out, leaving Chili with a three second lead.

The second race also saw a number of fallers, with only ten riders finishing the race. James Toseland crashed at the Corkscrew turn, forcing Hodgson to back right off. The championship leader eventually fought his way back to second, just 1.5 seconds in front of Chris Walker at the flag.
