Crash sees Xaus miss Superpole

1 of 1

Ruben Xaus crashed out of the second qualifying session for round four of the World Superbike championship in Monza.

The factory Ducati rider was following Bertocchi Kawasaki’s Ivan Clementi when entering in to the chicane Clementi dropped his bike. The ZX-7RR kicked up so much dust as it went across the grass the Xaus couldn’t see it as it slid back on to the chicane and he rode straight in to it crashing heavily and knocking himself out.

Xaus is currently resting in the Clinica Mobile and has been declared unfit to ride for the rest of the day suffering severe nausea as a result of the concussion.

The Spanish rider is hoping to be able to race tomorrow but he will have missed today’s Superpole session so will start in sixteenth place on the grid.

Frankie Chile picked up the fastest time of the session with a 1:47.247 beating Troy Bayliss’ 2002 fastest lap by 0.2 seconds.

Neil Hodgson came in with the second fastest time followed by James Toseland and Regis Laconi.

Troy Corser only just managed to make the Superpole session in 16th place after tyre problems saw him ride no faster than in Friday’s session.
