Lanzi takes first win

Lorenzo Lanzi has taken a race win in his debut for the factory Ducati Squad, sharing the spoils at the German Lausitzring with fellow winner Chris Vermeulen.

Lanzi started both races from pole while filling in for the injured Regis Laconi, but he over shot the first corner in the opening race leaving the way clear for Vermeulen to go on to win the shortened race.

The Italian rider, who normally rides the sattelite Scuderia Caracchi Ducati, was determined to make up for his first race mistake and held off both Noriyuki Haga and Chris Vermeulen in race two to take the win by almost a second.

After messing up his superpole champioship leader Troy Corser continued to have a bad weekend he took a respectabel thrid place in race one but crashed on the second lap in race two. The Aussie managed to remount but his 13th place means that he is now only 60 points ahead fo Vermeulen in the championship with 100 up for grabs.

James Toseland failed to live up to the challenge of the new boy at the factory Ducati squad taking fourth in the first race and 11th in the second.
