Hodgson fight for podium

1 of 1

Neil Hodgson was unlucky not to take a podium at the Road Atlanta round of the AMA Superbike championship on Sunday, September 3 as he finished just 0.098 away from the rostrum.

Hodgson had run as high as third in the first race on Saturyda before an issue with grip dropped him back to fifth, and that includes the British rider running off the track during the race before rejoining. The race was won Mat Mladin on the first of three Suzukis, with Ben Spies and Aaron Yates also making the podium ahead of Miguel Duhamel on the Honda.

The second race saw Mladin and Spies again take the top two spots, with Hodgson holding third for much of the race. The last laps saw a valiant attempt to hold off the closing Suzuki of Yates, but ended with Hodgson taking fourth.

“It was tought to lose one like that,” said Hodgson. “As soon as Yates was level with me, I knew it was over because he had the inside line. I tried to square him coming out of the corner but I knew it wasn’t going to happen. The last turn pass hurts even more because you don’t have a chance to get him back.”

AMA standings:

1. Ben Spies (Suzuki) 625.

2. Mat Mladin (Suzuki) 605.

3. Miguel Duhamel (Honda) 496.

4. Aaron Yates (SUzuki) 451.

5. Neil Hodgson (DUcati) 440.
