World Supersport: Jonathan Rea delays surgery on injured finger

Jonathan Rea will delay surgery on his injured finger to take part in this weekend’s Phillip Island World Supersport round.

The Hanspree Honda Ten Kate rider partially severed a tendon in his right ring finger just two laps into his World Supersport debut.

Jonathan Rea could be left with a permanently hooked finger because of his decision to put off the surgery, but he told MCN he can’t afford to miss the Australian race, or next month’s test at Valencia.

He said: “If I went for the operation tonight I’d be out for four weeks.

“That’s not really on the agenda. I need to battle on.”
