Carlos Checa 13th rider to take wins in both GP and WSB

1 of 1

Carlos Checa’s WSB victories at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA last weekend cemented the Spaniards place in the history books as one of the few men to win a GP and WSB race in their career.

Checa joins some of the sports all time greats with his double win to become the 13th rider in history to join the illustrious club.

With more and more crossover between the two world championships the list looks poised to grow. In the last two years, four riders have added their names to the list.

In MotoGP former WSB men Troy Bayliss and Chris Vermeulen secured wins in the premier MotoGP class in Valencia 2006 and Le Man 2007 respectively.

In WSB, long time GP men Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa made the switch to Superbikes, both winning in their debut season – Biaggi Qatar 2007 and Checa USA 2008.

Looking ahead the only riders able to add their name to the list in 2008 are Tech 3 men James Toseland and Colin Edwards. Both men have countless WSB victories to their name, but are chasing their maiden MotoGP win.

The 13 winners in both classes are:

Marco Lucchinelli

Mick Doohan

Kevin McGee

Frankie Chili

Regis Laconi

John Kocinski

Makoto Tamada

Garry McCoy

Alex Barros

Troy Bayliss

Max Biaggi
