Monza World Superbikes: Unstoppable Bayliss takes pole

1 of 1

Xerox Ducati rider Troy Bayliss has taken pole position for tomorrows two 18 lap World Superbike races.

Bayliss showed his electrifying pace during the final free practice session and then went even faster on his Superpole lap to set a new best lap for the 5.79KM Monza circuit.

German Max Neukirchner led all the way during the previous practice and qualifying sessions and looked the only man capable of beating Bayliss, but he couldn’t replicate his earlier pace and ended second 0.35 seconds behind the Australian.

Noriyuki Haga improved his starting position dramatically with a fine Superppole lap. The 2007 double race winner has to beat Bayliss tomorrow if he wants to have any chance of fighting for the title, but has so far not shown the race pace to trouble the Ducati rider.

Carlos Checa was another man that benefited from a strong Superpole performance with the Spaniard moving up from 15th to the front row of the grid.
