Haslam to miss first free practice, undecided on race participation

Following surgery yesterday where he had two screws inserted into his broken right tibia, Leon Haslam will miss the opening Free Practice session at Phillip Island this morning.

The factory BMW rider crashed heavily in testing on Tuesday, but despite the seriousness of the injury has not ruled out participating in this weekend’s race.

Speaking at Phillip Island today, Haslam said: “I’m not going to go out this morning because its only free practice and it gives me an extra few hours to rest before the qualifying session this afternoon.

“As soon as I get on the bike I’m going to know a lot more. If I think I can be ok to secure points on Sunday then I’ll race, if I can’t I’m going to have to sit it out.”

First qualifying gets underway 15.30 local time – GMT +11hours.
