Following yesterday’s Superpole session which saw full wet weather tyres disintegrating along the 200mph front straight at Monza there is genuine concern for today’s two WSB races.
Through a mixture of the track being fully wet and completely dry in places, riders opted to use full wet weather tyres, but because of the conditions and extreme heat build up the tyres were unable to last more than a single flying lap.
In Superpole Sylvan Guintoli eventually fitted a slick rear tyre to set the fastest time and admitted that he’d had to take big risks to take pole.
With the majority of the grid using full wet weather tyres during Superpole many of them have used a significant number of their allocation of eight full wet weather tyres.
Pirelli maintain that their full wet tyres will last race distance, but only if the track is wet and have urged riders to use intermediate tyres in the mixed conditions.
