Aprilia's Torres learning fast

After losing some time in previous winter tests to bad weather new WSB rider Jordi Torres is making up for lost time at the PI tests, and doing so at a more than decent pace for a series rookie.

Fifth fastest on day one, he stated he is still learning his way around the entire WSB racing scene, despite his obvious abilities.

“I need to work on braking late,” said Torres. “Entering the corners I see other riders start to brake – too late. But, when entering the corners they stop the bike and when they release the brake they have maximum lean. It is difficult for me. I stop the bike, release the brake and then go to maximum inclination.”

Torres understandably feels happy riding the Aprilia at PI, as it only had two slow corners where this hard and late braking style is used by his rivals. “In this track you need to play with a transient throttle and for me that is more easy. I need to learn a lot of things, how to use the tyres, riding with the other guys on track, starting, the qualifying tyre, which I have not used yet. I need to understand a lot of things here.”

So far the vast knowledge of the small army of Aprilia technical staff in his Aprilia Racing – Red Devils Roma garage have been able to help him iron out an issues he has experienced on track.

“All the people in this team can search easily in different ways to solve problems,” said Torres. “For me it is easy, it starts easy. When you go fast you can have a little problem, but they know that you need ‘this and ‘this’. They know the bike so well and I am happy. But I just need to learn a lot of things. I have had only two days at Jerez and part of a dry afternoon at Portimao. My times on day one at the PI tests were not so bad, but this was the bike, not the rider,” said the modest Spaniard.
