Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) finished on top of the first day time sheets at the Sepang round of the FIM Supersport World Championship with a 2’09.235 lap set in the dry conditions of the morning session.

After extreme rainfall arrived just before lunchtime, and carried on for some time, the afternoon session was fully wet, only slightly drying as the 45-minute session timed out. In these wet conditions Patrick ‘PJ’ Jacobsen (Core” Motorsport Thailand Honda) was fastest, but far behind the morning dry times.

Behind Zanetti overall the other factory MV of Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) put in the second fastest time followed by Jacobsen, 0.475 seconds from the top.

A resurgent Kyle Smith (PATA Honda World Supersport Team) was fourth fastest, ahead of Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), the first Kawasaki rider.

Roberto Rolfo (Team Lorini Honda) rode into the top six and rookie Sepang rider Marco Faccani (San Carlo Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) seventh. Gino Rea (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) was eighth and his Colombian team-mate Martin Cardenas (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) ninth. The top ten was rounded put by a third MV, the privateer machine of Alex Baldolini (Race Department ATK#25 MV Agusta).
