After the second of two 2016 FIM Supersport World Championship qualifying sessions at Phillip Island all-time WSS legend Kenan Sofuoglu ended up as the quickest rider, thanks to his first session 1’33.664. He did not set a lap in the second qualifying session.

Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) also relied on his morning time for second place, but he did lap on the afternoon of the first day.

For Randy Krummenacher (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) third place and an improved afternoon lap time were his first day of school rewards in his new race category.

Lorenzo Zanetti, in fourth place, was the third of the top four riders to not improve in the afternoon session, while British rider Kyle Ryde (Ranieri Med-SC Racing) remained inside the top five on his Yamaha R6 thanks to his early time.

PJ Jacobsen (Honda World Supersport Team) crashed late in the session but still went sixth, displacing MV Agusta rider Alex Baldolini to seventh.

Kevin Wahr (Gemar Ballons Team Lorini Honda) was eighth, Kyle Smith (CIA Landlords Insurance Honda) ninth and Nico Terol (Schmidt Racing MV Agusta) tenth. He completed the top ten riders who go straight to the new-look Superpole 2, under the latest WSBK-style WSS Superpole qualifying sessions on Saturday.

All the other qualified riders will enter Superpole 1, with the top two then joining in to make a 12-rider strong Superpole 2 session.
