Overnight changes boost feeling for Lowes

Alex Lowes believes his PATA Yamaha team took a vital step forward in improving his feeling with the YZF-R1 on Saturday, enabling him to ride to a strong sixth place in Sunday’s second race at Imola.

After finishing race one in a dismal 11th, the Crescent team set to work on a number of changes in an attempt to improve Lowes’ feeling on the bike and it appeared to work, with Lowes going on to replicate his best result of the season.

“We made some changes to the bike overnight and this gave me a better feeling, helping me to do my best lap of the weekend after 11 laps of the race,” he said.
“I was struggling a little with consistency at the end but we learnt a lot and did a good job. We made some good steps forward compared to our opposition and our next target has got to be to start the weekends a little more competitively from the outset.

Confident the changes will also improve his feeling at other circuits, he’s hoping to prove more competitive as World Superbikes heads to Sepang and Donington Park.

“Obviously it’s still a new bike and we are learning as we go along but I think a lot of what we have achieved here will be relevant as we head to other tracks and hopefully we can be a bit more competitive from the start of Friday.”
