Sofuoglu takes supersport pole in Sepang

Multiple world champion Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) secured pole position after Superpole 2 in the WorldSSP class, breaking the existing track best with his 2’08.055 lap, set right at the end of the session. He overtook his team-mate Randy Krummenacher to go pole, with the Swiss rider also under the old track best with his 2’08.155.

Lapping just behind Sofuoglu, Gino Rea (GRT Racing Team MV Agusta) got a front row start in third place, making him easily the best MV Agusta rider pre-race.

PJ Jacobsen (Honda World Supersport Team) ended his practice sessions fourth on the grid, and first Honda rider home in qualifying. Regular WorldSSP rider and local star Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Orelac Racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) placed fifth in front of his home fans.

The second row was completed by stand-in rider Ayrton Badovini (GEMAR Balloons – Team Lorini Honda).

Works MV runner Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) was seventh, seasoned Sepang veteran from his GP days Roberto Rolfo (Team Factory Vamag MV Agusta) eighth and Kawasaki privateer Ondrej Jezek (Team GOELEVEN Kawasaki) ninth.

Nicolas Terol (Schmidt Racing MV Agusta), Federico Caricasulo (BARDAHL Evan Bros. Honda Racing) and Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) completed the Superpole 2 qualifiers.
