How a Scottoiler can improve your biking life and extend the life of your chain

Paid partnership with Scottoiler

There are loads of reasons to get into riding motorbikes; a sense of freedom and adventure like no other, exhilaration, excitement, even improved mental health for some, but chain maintenance isn’t one of them.

Unfortunately, it’s a necessary chore that all riders with a chain drive must complete – but tools like a Scottoiler make the job a lot easier.

Following a simple installation and set-up, the latest Scottoiler xSystem 3.0+ eliminates the need for manual lubrication, extending the life of your chain. And the new Scottoiler app gives users Bluetooth control of flowrate and other features, making it easier than ever to finetune your experience.

A brief history of Scottoiler

These days, Scottoiler is the global leader of automatic chain lubrication but it was founded all the way back in 1984 by Fraser Scott. Having ridden his Suzuki 750 Four from his home in Glasgow to meet his girlfriend in Manchester, he found that his chain was hanging off the sprockets.

He had an idea that the Suzuki’s vacuum petrol-tap could be adapted to make an automatic chain oiler and that was the start of his career as the inventor of the Scottoiler.

Scott passed away in 2022, but Scottoiler is still a family-owned business having passed first to Fraser’s daughter, Fiona and then last year to her son-in-law, Matt Ennen and Nick Muddle. The firm is based in Milngavie (you say it Mull-guy), Scotland and they sell a range of mechanical and electronic chain oiler systems.

How does it work?

In its simplest form, a Scottoiler is device that uses a nozzle to apply a small amount of oil onto the final drive chain of a motorcycle as it moves. There are several versions from basic mechanical options through to the latest Bluetooth-enabled, high-tech generation.

The xSystem uses an easily mountable dispenser that draws its power direct from the bike’s battery. It’s easily mountable on almost any motorbike either on the frame or under the seat.

The dispenser feeds a pipe that needs to be routed along the swingarm to the rear wheel, where it feeds a nozzle that lubricates the chain as it rounds the rear sprocket.

The system can tell when the bike is moving, so you won’t leave a puddle of oil on the road when you stop in traffic. And the app management of the latest version means you can alter and customise your flowrate, too.

Which Scottoiler is for you?

Scottoiler chain oiler products are the benchmark for motorbike chain lube systems and used by motorcyclists worldwide. Using a Scottoiler system means your chain is automatically lubricated while you ride, saving you time, money, and hassle on chain maintenance.

When you connect a vSystem motorcycle chain oiler to the bike you have a system that automatically gets to work when you start your motorcycle. Whilst it is operated by the engine vacuum, the vSystem oiler does not absorb any power or affect the performance of your engine because it is purely vacuum operated.

It is easily installed and can be fitted to most bikes in an hour or two.
The Scottoiler xSystem is the easiest to install and most user friendly chain oiler yet. The revolutionary design makes the xSystem super compact whilst providing optimal chain lubrication. The Scottoiler xSystem is perfect for your modern commuter or tourer, looking for a discreet solution to chain maintenance.

The latest version, the xSystem 3.0+ now is the first app-controlled automatic chain oiler. With the brand new Scottoiler App, riders can take complete control of their chain maintenance.
