What's the deal with the Sena 60S Bluetooth headset? Find out what it is and how it works here

Well-known motorcycle intercom manufacturer SENA announced their latest flagship smart communication unit at the Italian Motorcycle Trade Show called EICMA last November, designed to compete with the Cardo Packtalk Pro, which was released earlier that same year.

So what is it? The major selling point of the 60S is its ability to connect to an unlimited number of riders with no range limitations. The new SENA Wave Technology uses VoIP connectivity, meaning that (as long as there is a cell phone signal) the system seamlessly switches (Sena’s words) between Mesh and cellular connections, providing continuous, uninterrupted connectivity.

We're currently testing the Sena 60S and we'll bring you our full review as soon as it's ready.

It’s worth noting that the Wave app required for this functionality is currently only available in North America (although some users seem to be struggling even in the US). SENA has stated that it should be ready for global release “by the end of 2024”, which it wasn’t.

“At SENA, we’re motorcyclists first and foremost, and we understand how important it is to stay connected,” said Tae Kim, Founder and CEO of SENA. “With Wave, you can stay in touch with your group, no matter the distance. As long as there’s network coverage, you’re connected, without the range limitations of Bluetooth or Mesh.”

SENA 60S mobile app

Paired with the new SENA Wave mobile app, riders can see the positions of everyone in their group on a map within a 2km radius. The app also includes chat functionality with image sharing and an SOS button for quick emergency alerts.

The new Mesh 3.0 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity offer improved audio quality and more stable connections. However, if you pair the 60S with an older intercom model, it will revert to Mesh 2.0 for compatibility.

Equipped with second-generation Harman Kardon speaker technology, the 60S provides up to 130% more volume than the 50S. The system automatically adjusts each rider’s volume to ensure everyone is heard at the same level.

The 60S also features advanced AI technology aimed at enhancing the rider experience. This includes automated background noise reduction for clearer communication in noisy environments. The AI, developed in collaboration with Fluent.ai, improves voice recognition, supporting more accents and languages for easier device interaction using voice commands.

Additional features include IPX7 waterproofing, a built-in flashlight, two full mounting kits for use with different helmets, and magnetic mounting. The unit charges in 1.5 hours via USB-C and offers a battery life of up to 16 hours with Mesh and 22 hours with Bluetooth.

The 60S is available in four interchangeable cover designs: gloss black, pearl white, metallic silver, and dark chrome. You can buy it now from Revzilla for $399.99.

We’ll share our first impressions of the unit as soon as possible.
