The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is the Harley motorcycle for the real Easy Rider/Chopper fans. Basic Hog architecture (big twin mill, twin shock ‘Dyna’ rear end) gets the full-on ‘bro’ treatment with raked out, widely-splayed  (hence the Wide moniker) forks, 21-inch wire front wheels, pull-back Ape-hangers, ‘bobtail’ rear fender and forward-mounted ‘highway’ pegs. As a motorcycle, ponderous. As a style statement, the Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is incomparable.

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is plush, yes. Plush like a draylon Parker Knoll recliner… one that’s a teetering three inches thick. With deep chopped seat and highway pegs this is a lounger of a bike, but being a two-wheeler it’s a bit wobbly too. The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide handles OK for what it is. Just don’t go chasing sports bikes…

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is exactly the same as every other current big twin Harley which, in turn, is virtually the same as ever big twin Harley since 1984. There’s a certain insanity to that, but also a charm, heritage and trust that no-one else can match. The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide thuds along OK, too, for a big lump of iron.

Again, the Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is a modern Harley, so paint, build quality, robustness etc are a given to be amongst the best anywhere. Reliability is a pretty much beyond question, too, after all the Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is a big, massively refined yet understressed motorcycle ridden very little and serviced often by wealthy people. So go figure…

At the thick end of £12K when new, the Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is one of the more expensive of Harley style statements, so it’s pretty much for the committed only. In our view a Harley-Davidson Softail Standard (at £1000 less), Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom (at £2000 less) or, particularly the Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob (at £3600 less) offer far better value. Having owned Harley's and a number of various makes of both British and Japanese motorcycles I considered this as the best of the bunch ,Great for the long haul or just back and forth to work or my usual 600 or 800 mile weekend jaunts.while not the fastest bike I've owned it's quick and nimble enough,and it doesn't mind if its just you or your riding two up

Should have kept the dual disc's front break's from the earlier model's , but the brake's are good, best seat I've ever sat on and my girlfriend hasn't complained about the back seat at all, I can ride longer on this bike than any other bike I've ever had. it's what I would call an 800 mile seat

Hand's down the best engine Harley or anyone else has ever built, and if you want to go faster S&S builds a line of go fast goodies ,I went with the 106 big bore kit higher compresion pistons 10.5 to 1 and the 575 series EZ start cams over a hundred HP and torque

Twin Cam engine is both reliable and a power house engine add the 6 speed gearbox and decent fuel economy and unlike a few of my Brit and Japanese bikes

We ride on the average of 9 months out of 12, And we tend to cover a lot of ground , I normally put on an average of 7,500-9,500 miles a year on my bike's depending on the weather and I'm not a weekend or sunshine only rider

The only thing I didn't like on the bike and the first thing I changed after my first trip from Iowa to Idaho and back were the handle bar's I've never liked ape hangers and I switched the bar's for the drag bar's wit a 6 inch rise and added the taller passenger sissy bar,more for the stackable luggage bags than the passenger. I changed from Dunlop's to pirrellies and went to a performence exhaust from stock

Buying experience: Was extremly happy with the purchase paid $5,000. plus my trade in a 2006 Yamaha Stratoliner,

The 1998 FXDWG is as beautiful as it is rideable. Classic Harley quality, ride, comfort, and feel. These bikes are getting scarce as they were the last year of the EVO engine, and one of the most dependable of all HDs.

Harley quality is legendary. You sit on leather, touch thick chrome and hear the thump of a solid, well-engineered motor.

Dealers charge too much. Buy the Clymer manual and some tools and be a real Harley owner.
