Motorcycle insurance bargains: Hyosung GT650

Motorcycle insurance costs are an important consideration for any bike buyer. That's why MCN is highlighting some of the best cheap-to-insure motorcycles out there. This time it's the Hyosung GT650.

Insurance group: 9
Engine: 647cc v-twin
Power: 79bhp
Top speed: 130mph
Weight: 180kg

If you're in the market for a budget first bike the Hyosung is well worth considering. It's a little crude compared to the recently re-introduced SV650S, but it makes more power and it's a few hundred pounds cheaper. Plus it's only group 9 to insure.

You can't say Hyosung haven't tried hard with the GT650 Comet, squeezing a claimed 79bhp from the V-twin motor, which uses old school carbs rather than fuel injection. As the Hyosung GT650 Comet is closely based on the Suziki SV650 there shouldn't be too many question marks over reliability either.

For a low cost commuter/leisure bike, the Hyosung GT650 Comet is a decent handling bike, with multi-adjustable front forks. But the monoshock on the Hyosung GT650 Comet only has preload adjustment and so the overall ride isn't quite as good as it might be, plus the brakes lack the feel of the SV650S.
