Motorcycle insurance bargains: Triumph Thruxton

Motorcycle insurance costs are an important consideration for any bike buyer. That's why MCN is highlighting some of the best cheap-to-insure motorcycles out there. This time it's the Triumph Thruxton.

Insurance group: 13
Engine: 865cc parallel twin
Power: 69bhp
Top speed: 115mph
Weight: 205kg

The Triumph Thruxton is a great looking cafe racer, which just doesn't have the punchy power you'd expect of a big twin. But if it's laid-back retro kicks you're after rather than speed, it's a nice posing tool and a treat on Sunday mornings. Plus it's only group 13 to insure.

The Triumph Thruxton has a healthy 69bhp, which is well up on the Scrambler/Speedmaster power output from the same mill. It sounds strangled though - fruitier cans are a must.

For a moderately heavy bike, the Triumph Thruxton handles OK, but it doesn't convince the rider that this a genuinely sporty thing to ride, apart from the `full-on' racy riding position. Suspension is too soft and adjustable for preload only. But you don't buy a Thruxton for it's performance.
