Indian tyre firm Apollo Vredestein might not be a familiar name to many, but they have their sights set on challenging the big hitters with a new range of sports and sports touring rubber. The new Apollo Alpha –H1, for small capacity machines is the first step towards their goal.
It’s the first zero degree steel belt radial tyre to be manufactured in India and available in 110/70 x 17 front and 150/60 x 17 rear, for restricted licence machines like the KTM 125 and 390 Duke and BMW G310 R. They’re only available in India for now, but plans are in place to bring it into Europe and UK, branded as Vredestein.
Former Pirelli Marketing Director Alberto Vigano joined Apollo Vredestein in April. “We are at the beginning of further rolling out our motorcycle division worldwide”, he explains. “We have a very good product for the Indian market, but will soon also come with an interesting product for the European market under the well-known Vredestein brand that has been operating in the premium and ultra-high performance car, bicycle and agricultural sectors since 1909. With this in mind we are currently setting-up a dedicated R&D department for motorcycle tyres in the Netherlands and a testing facility in Italy.
MCN will be testing the new rubber early next year.
