New rider: Do you really need a powerful bike?

1 of 1

There’s no right or wrong time to buy your first big bike, the key to the process is to be honest with yourself.

If you have been driving a car for years and have built up a fund of roadcraft in your head, and you are confident that you have the ability to control a more powerful bike, then go for it. After all, the throttle works both ways.

But if you are just starting out on your career as a rider, and have only been running a bike for a little while, take a good long look in the mirror at yourself.

Ask yourself whether you have the confidence to control a more powerful bike. Will you be able to resist the lure of showing off in front of your mates/girls, are all your mates riding gods who could suck you into going too fast, too soon?

At the end of the day, you are the one in charge of your own destiny, be honest with yourself and you’ll have a great time biking.
