Q. I own a Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja on a 2001 plate and I can’t change gear. There doesn’t seem to be any resistance on the pedal. Have you got any idea what it could be?
Can I repair it myself? How much would it cost if I put it in a shop?
Ronnie
A. The shaft that runs from the gear lever has a claw on the opposite end that meshes with pegs on the gear selector drum and uses a small spring to return to the central position after each gear change.
You can get at it behind the clutch basket and you are looking for a broken spring or even a peg missing from the selector drum.
