Best tyres for a hot track day

1 of 1

Q. I recently highsided a Ducati Monster S4RS on a set of Bridgestone BT016s at the Salzburgring in Austria.

The local expert (superbike racer) looked at the tyres and thought they looked overheated. I replaced the totalled Duke with a Moto Morini 1200 Corsaro, and am heading off to Mugello in Italy in August.

I’m planning to have a set of Michelin Power Pure tyres on, as I got a set thrown in with the purchase of the bike. Are they likely to be good enough for a hot day on a fast track?

A. I’m not surprised the 016s overheated as they are a sports touring tyre not best suited to race tracks, especially somewhere like the super-fast Salzburgring.

Those Power Pures are still a bit ‘roady’ for a ‘hot day on a fast track’ so we’d recommend Pirellis Diablo Rosso Corsas or Dunlop GP Racer D211s.
