DENNIS HOWARD, the founder of biking rights organisation the Motorcycle Action Group, has died following an accident on a pushbike last week. He was 80.

Howard launched the group to campaign for bikers’ rights after the Government made helmet use compulsory in 1973.

He had taken a back seat within MAG in recent years, but was in constant contact with senior officers in his role as President.

MAG spokesman Ian Mutch said: ” Dennis was one of the great characters of motorcycling – the ultimate gentleman.

” His limited capacity for criticism was reserved for people who were unsympathetic to motorcycling and concocted pointless regulations to restrict the fun and freedom of the lifestyle he championed. ”

Howard, who continued to ride his 250cc MZ until his death, leaves a widow, Laura. MCN sends its condolences to his family.
