Hislop injured in race one at Rockingham

1 of 1

Steve Hislop’s championship could be in serious doubt after a crash in the first race at Rockingham Motor Speedway. It’s left him with a compound fracture of the right ankle, a dislocated ankle, and a fractured collarbone. He was taken to Kettering hospital after having his ankle plastered at the circuit.

The race was red flagged after the incident at the first corner of the track. The race had been running under a pace car, with Hislop behind Reynolds. As Hislop tried to gain momentum for a challenge on Reynolds, the Red Bull Ducati rider missed a gear, causing him to slow dramatically. Steve Hislop’s Monstermob Ducati touched Reynolds back wheel, and the Scot could not keep the bike upright.

The race was won after the restart by Red Bull Ducati’s Sean Emmett, following a close battle with Kawasaki rider Michael Rutter. Hislop’s main championship rival John Reynolds claimed third. Lee Jackson was the top privateer in sixth.

A full report will follow soon.
