Dangerous safety signs

1 of 1

Signs like these are springing up on biker routes in Essex – and local riders are understandably outraged.

The council say they slow riders down. The bikers say someone will die after hitting one of the posts that hold up the signs – even if they aren’t speeding.

The posts are on the A414 from the M11 to Harlow and on the B184 and A1060 from Chipping Ongar towards Bishop’s Stortford.

Keith Phillips, who lives in nearby Hatfield Heath, rides the road at least three times a week on his Kawasaki ZX-9R.

He said: ” The council is forcing anyone who makes a little mistake to pay with their lives. If you hit these you will die and that seems a heavy price to pay. ”

A spokesman for the council said: ” The measures were taken in response to a series of serious, fatal accidents, many involving motorcyclists, and should prevent further accidents.

” Essex County Council will monitor the stretch of road and any accidents that occur. ”
